Born in Campinas, Brazil, Rodrigo was raised by loving parents and a small army of aunts and uncles. His best friend’s parents also picked up the slack here and there. He grew up in a rough neighborhood, though it didn't feel that way when his world was small. His upbringing taught him to see people before society could teach him to see ‘the poor.’

Rodrigo was born during the military dictatorship in Brazil. He didn’t live through the dictatorship, but he lived through its legacy.  He is very familiar with the imaginary benefits of dogmatic, authoritarian decision-making and the real consequences it has on the lives of the working class.

He is drawn to stories that mix magical realism, Brazilian folklore, and social issues.
